Jesus commissioned believers to “make disciples of all nations,” which, according to Bible Commentator Matthew Henry, means to “do your utmost to make the nations Christian nations.” How do we make the nations Christian? How do we build Godly nations? The Bible teaches that if a people obey God’s laws they will have liberty, peace, prosperity, and justice. But we must obey all of God’s laws to experience the abundance of God’s blessing. To the extent we obey in all areas of life, is the extent we will experience the Godly fruit of liberty.
The Founders of America understood this vital truth and attempted to build the nation upon the precepts of God, and though not without fault, their efforts produced the best example of a Christian nation in history. Thus there are many important lessons we can learn from the American Founders as we seek to build Godly nations today.

Harvard University Professor Alan Heimert said that the evidence in this book provides, “truly new and original insight into the religious atmosphere of pre-Revolutionary Virginia, adding immeasurably to Jefferson’s own intellectual biography.” Drawing from about 1100 religious letters and papers of Jefferson, this book identifies over 200 religious leaders or groups that Jefferson either worshipped with, aided financially or corresponded with. While not denying the unorthodox writings of Jefferson late in life, the context of the vast majority of his religious correspondence and actions, and the unique religious culture of Central Virginia, show a much more nuanced picture that challenges both secular and religious scholars to reassess Jefferson’s modern image.

Was Abraham Lincoln a Christian? Did he believe the Bible was the inspired word of God?
William Herdon, Lincoln’s law partner for about 18 years, said of him: “As to Mr. Lincoln’s religious views, he was, in short, an infidel….Mr. Lincoln told me a thousand time that he did not believe the Bible was the revelation of God as the Christian world contends.” One biographer records of Lincoln that “when he went to church, he went to mock and came away a mimic.”
Yet, Rev. James Smith, the pastor of the church in Springfield where Lincoln attended for over 10 years, gives a much different picture. He writes: “It is a very easy matter to prove that while I was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Mr. Lincoln did avow his belief in the divine authority and inspiration of the Scriptures.” His pastor while he was President, Dr. Gurley wrote: “I considered him sound not only on the truth of the Christian religion but on all its fundamental doctrines and teaching.”
Which of these views is right? Why the contrary views? These questions and more are answered in Abraham Lincoln’s Faith.

Providential Perspective Series – 12
32 pages, paperback, PP12
The freedom of religious expression was chief among America’s founding principles. However, today there is an unprecedented effort to deny this most basic of human rights in almost every area of American life. A Time to Speak is a 60-minute film from the American Family Association highlighting the urgent need for Christians to pray, speak out and vote. It’s a clarion call for the Church to break the silence and preserve this freedom for the coming generations. “Our religious freedoms are under full frontal assault. I’m more convinced than ever that A Time To Speak can educate pastors and church leaders on the dangers of losing religious liberty. It will also equip them with resources to turn the tide in the most important endeavor of my lifetime. If we lose now, the window of opportunity to turn it around will close. ”
Stories and interviews from Hobby Lobby, Sweet Cakes, Restriction of Chaplains, and more!

The film includes leading voices on both sides of the issue. One Generation Away discovers that our “first freedom”-religious liberty-is one that demands attention at this critical point in American history.
